When the Christmas Season comes, our thoughts turn to Sugar Plums and treats. We are excited to announce this years Sugar Plum Fairy at Kalamazoo Ballet will be one of our Alums- Annette Barcelona. She danced with Bullard School and Kalamazoo Ballet for her training and beginning years and always exhibited great talent, disapline and creativeness. Annette was the first person to dance en pointe, the role of the “girl”, in the”young boy and girl” role created by Clifford Collier in the ballet “In the Park”. Her first role en pointe in Nutcracker was that of the Doll in Act 1. A role she danced beautifully. She has accomplished her dream of dancing professionally with great success in addition to attaining a Masters Degree in Dance. During her studies Annette was priviledged to have the famous Ballanchine Principal Suzanne Farrell coach and train her. Artistic Director: Thérèse Bullard says, “I am so proud of Annette, it’s so emotional for me to witness and see her development as a dancer and as a wonderful human being”. Mother Ginger will be in full force this season dancing with the little apprentices. Alan Williams the original “Mother Ginger” who also constructed the large skirt, will honor us with his expertise. This is probably Alan’s 30th year performing this crowd pleasing role. Witness new choreography by Gene Chua and Aimee Tye as well as original choreography by Thérèse Bullard. This performance is for all ages. It’s short enough says, Ms. Bullard “It’s great for busy families and non-ballet lovers usually the husbands”.
