MIDSOMMAR

Five young people decide to travel to a remote Swedish village to observe a festive solstice ritual held only once every 90 years.  The local celebrants are calm and welcoming, all decked out in elaborate Swedish frockery, evocative of butter cookies and saffron buns.  The setting is pastoral and bright – the sun doesn't set for days at a time.  But director Ari Aster’s emotionally harrowing film proves that not all scary things happen in the dark.
