The Plainwell Arts Council in conjunction with the City of Plainwell is accepting proposals for public art. The project can be a sculpture or a mural.
Background: In 2019, the mayor of Plainwell passed away. The area for the sculpture project was recently named “Mayor Brooks Plaza”. This public art piece is being commissioned for the city in recognition of Mayor Brooks’ service to the community.
Deadline for proposal: June 15, 2022 Installation completed by October 15, 2022 Budget: A $12,000 purchase prize inclusive of all materials (including artist’s own materials), fabrication, installation, any artist fee and all travel required by the artist. Paid at 15% upon approval and start of fabrication, 85% upon completion and approval. Within reason, modifications made to the site based on winning concept/recommendations will be made by the City of Plainwell.
Eligibility: Any professional artist, or team of artists, 18 years of age or older regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, military status, sexual orientation, marital status, or physical or mental disability. Artist(s) must have experience in exterior, medium scale public sculpture in low maintenance, highly durable materials. Must have completed at least 2 public art commissions. Demonstrated success in creating artwork incorporated into site-specific locations. Experience with engagement in and working with a diverse community and key stakeholders. Available to begin work immediately to meet the demands of a fast-track design process.
Contract: Artists or collaborations selected for this installation will be required to enter into a contract with the City of Plainwell, agreeing to abide by the terms included in this RFP. No additional and/or contingency funds will be available for RFP applicants. Deadline: Received by June 15, 2022 no later than 5pm.
