Born out of a need for Bluegrass in the Chelsea, MI area, Thunderwüde became a band in the winter of 2014 and consists of Jason Dennie, Wesley Fritzemeier, and Tommy Reifel. Thunderwüde started out primarily as a traditional bluegrass quartet with guitar, mandolin, fiddle and upright bass. Thunderwüde has since evolved into a tight-knit trio that can bounce between intricate original compositions, bluegrass standards, and current billboard hits within the flick of a fiddle bow. With decades of collective touring behind them, Thunderwüde’s live show is one that charms human emotions with impeccable songwriting, affectional melodies and vocal harmonies, while further satisfying the intellect with seasoned instrumental chops and musical improvisation.
Thunderwüde members have shared the bill with many notable artists including Arlo Guthrie, Keb Mo, Sam Bush, David Wilcox, LeAnn Rimes, The Raconteurs, Sheryl Crowe, and Taj Mahal, to name a few. Additionally, they have played such notable folk venues as The Ark, The Bluebird Cafe, Canal Street Tavern, World Cafe Live, The Bijou Theater, Big Top Chautauqua, and The Birchmere. They also cook some mean mac and cheese.
“…playing bright, jammy originals and covers and aptly engaging the crowd of approving fans. The laid- back way these musicians gel as a group is fascinating to watch. In one night, the group thoroughly and unassumingly proves its adaptability, and the crowd demands an encore.”
