The class will start with a discussion of different types of fibers and their properties, how these elements affect the final results, appropriate dyes and chemicals for dyeing, safety, and basic dyeing techniques. After discussion and overview, the students will spend time dyeing and exploring different techniques. Some of the techniques include, dyeing for semi-solid results in a vat, application of dye for multi-colored effect, and more! The second day of class will begin with a discussion of the results of the first day's dyeing. Students will continue to explore different techniques for desired results. The class will also touch upon color mixing. Students will leave the class with lots of dyed fiber, hands-on knowledge about the various dyeing techniques, and a hand out describing the techniques used. A Materials list can be found online. Additional fiber will be available for purchase and a $50 materials fee must be paid to the instructor on the first day of class.
