Kirk Newman is an artist who shared his time, talent, and gifts with Kalamazoo and evidence of his legacy can be viewed in public art offerings and educational programs all over the greater community.

Join us on December 1, 2023 at the Westin Gallery in the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo office for a silent auction of works by Kirk Newman including framed drawings and prints, wrapped prints, and maquettes created by Newman over his lifetime. A visit to the gallery will include the viewing of Newman’s process sketchbooks! In addition to the auction, there will be a limited number of matted prints available for immediate sale in person at the Westin Gallery.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the MAGIK grant, a program specifically intended to fund collaborative efforts between community groups or neighborhood associations, and artists and arts organizations that are working with youth. These projects result in the growth and development of the youth involved and have a meaningful impact on the neighborhood or community in which the project takes place.

THE AUCTION: This silent auction will be open from 12:00 - 8:00 pm EST on Friday, December 1, 2023. The Westin Gallery in the offices of the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo will be open from 12:00 - 8:00 pm as well so patrons may view in person and bid on the artwork. Access to a computer will be provided in the gallery and information/instructions on how to participate on phones and other smart devices will be available. All bidding takes place online for those able to be in the gallery and for those unable to attend in person. If you need art shipped, that is possible, but shipping costs are not included in the winning bid. For in-person viewing, parking is available downtown on the street or in the attached Epic Parking Garage (the first 90 minutes in the garage are free).

TO BID: To participate and bid in the auction -

1. Visit https://www.acgk-auction-kirknewman.com/ and click the DETAILS button on any piece of artwork.
2. Choose PLEASE LOGIN TO BID and then REGISTER to create a username and password.
3. Once registered you are logged in and ready to bid.
4. Type in your desired bid amount and click BID.
5. You should then see a green bar telling you your bid was successful.

IMPORTANT NOTE - Once you have made a bid you will not be able to delete it. You will be able to adjust your bid amount up or down, but cannot remove it.

IF YOU ARE OUTBID: You will receive a notification if another person outbids you. You can go back to the item on the auction site and add a larger bid if so desired.

END OF AUCTION: At the end of the auction at 8:00 pm, winning bidders will be notified and will be sent a prompt to pay for their item online from Square. If you need to pay by cash or check please notify Kim Shaw at kshaw@kalamazooarts.org or 269-342-5059 to make arrangements.

PICKING UP WINNING ARTWORK: Once payment has been secured Kim Shaw will notify winning bidders of instructions on how to pick up artwork.

SHIPPING: For winning bidders that require their artwork to be shipped, please contact Kim Shaw at kshaw@kalamazooarts.org or 269-342-5059 to make arrangements. All shipping costs are the responsibility of the winning bidder. Shipping must be paid before the item is sent to its destination.

A NOTE ON THE EXHIBIT: The Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo would like to continue to show the artwork of Kirk Newman in our Westin Gallery for the entire month of December. If you purchase a piece and would like it right away, we can make these arrangements, however, if you are willing to leave your piece with us in the gallery for the length of the exhibit it is greatly appreciated.
