Concerts in the Park - Samuel Nalangira

at Bronson Park

A native of Uganda, East Africa, Samuel Nalangira is a folk/world musician, dancer, and choreographer who has been performing since his childhood and teaching since the age of 15. He is a multi-instrumentalist and a master at many traditional instruments including the Adungu from northern Uganda, Akogo from Eastern Uganda, Endingidi, Ngoni, and percussion. He also developed a unique approach and personal techniques on most of these instruments, and in combination with a soaring voice, his music carries an identity of the sub-Saharan skies.

Concerts in the Park is a program of the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo, with support from the Irving S. Gilmore Foundation, Kzoo Parks, WMUK, Encore Magazine, and the Michigan Arts & Culture Council. It is one of Kalamazoo’s long-standing traditions offered Sundays in June, July, and August in Bronson Park delivering a unique offering, unlike any other. Each concert is free and is friendly for the entire family. Picnic meals, blankets, or lawn chairs are encouraged.

There is not a rain site for Concerts in the Park. If inclement weather is expected the concert may be canceled by 2 pm on that same day.

On-street parking is available all around the perimeter of the park. Additional parking is nearby at the South Street Parking Garage.
