ARTbreak: Kirk Newman Art School Residents – Part 1

ARTbreak: Kirk Newman Art School Residents – Part 1

Presented by Kalamazoo Institute of Arts at Kalamazoo Institute of Arts

The Kirk Newman Art School Post-Baccalaureate Program is in its sixth year. The nine-month residency is designed for aspiring artists who want to grow and strengthen their art practice in a supportive community, with access to professional studio facilities and guidance. At each of these ARTbreaks, KIA guests will hear from the KNAS residents about their experiences and artistic pursuits.

Sculpture resident Jose Velarde-Chan is from Lansing, and studied mixed media sculpture, pencil, and paperwork at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. He wants to continue his art practice after the KNAS residency, wherever that may take him. Marissa Klee-Peregon is a Kalamazoo native. She attended Wellesley College in Massachusetts and focuses on interdisciplinary work including sewn sculpture, performance/video work, and digital photography.

The KIA is offering both in-person and virtual tickets for this ARTbreak. Please RSVP accordingly.
