The Conviction of Lady Lorraine

The Conviction of Lady Lorraine

Presented by Festival Playhouse of Kalamazoo College at The Playhouse of Kalamazoo College

This production is produced by Festival Playhouse of Kalamazoo College and is offered free to our entire community as part of our Martin Luther King, Jr. week celebrations.

Set in Memphis, TN near the Lorraine Motel where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated—a writer (Lampkin) has a brief but powerful encounter with a homeless woman, Lady Lorraine. She finds herself transformed by Lady Lorraine’s more than 20-year quest to right a social wrong.  One year later, the writer returns to Memphis, hoping that Lady Lorraine will share her full story of conviction. But the writer quickly finds herself asking new questions about many things, and finding that Lady Lorraine is not the only one on a quest for recognition.

Dwandra Nickole Lampkin serves as Associate Professor of Theatre at Western Michigan University, and has been a prolific performer. With a career spanning over two decades, her television credits include Law & Order, Law & Order SVU, Third Watch and Wonderland. She has performed at the Tony Award winning Denver Center Theatre, The Huntington Theatre in Boston, The Human Race Theatre Company in Dayton and the Indiana Repertory Theatre in Indianapolis. The Conviction of Lady Lorraine is directed by Dee Dee Batteast. Get tickets here.

Admission Info

Proof of vaccination and proper wearing of a mask is required for admittance.

Guests should reserve their tickets online; there may or may not be any tickets available the day of the production since seats are limited. Guests can arrive at the theatre up to 45 minutes before the show time though we suggest guests arrive at their selected arrival time (selected when you reserve your tickets on line) to reduce congestion around the box office.  There are no reserved seats, and all seating is on a “first-come, first-served” basis.  Once at the theatre, guests will be guided to their seats or should plan to wait outside.  Certain areas will be used as a “flow of traffic” area, not a waiting area.  House Management will make special accommodations for guests with disabilities who may need more time to enter the theatre. If possible, we request that guests notify the box office of any such need for special assistance at the time of ticket purchase by noting it in the reservation order online or by calling 269-337-7333.

Guests who have exhibited any of the symptoms of COVID-19 within seventy-two hours of their reservation must call our box office at 269-337-7333 for help rescheduling tickets if that is an option.
