PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Create a unique and functional decorative journal with instructors from the Kalamazoo Book Arts Center. Begin by learning how to create decorative paper for the case-bound book cover using the paste-painting technique, which employs simple mark-making tools to manipulate pigmented paste. Create multiple sheets for the book’s cover.

In following sessions learn how to fold pages, sew them together using the French link stitch, assemble a quarter bound case using paste paper for the main section and book cloth along the spine, and finish by gluing the text block into the cover and attaching the end pages. The result: a 6-in.-by-9-in. book perfect for journaling and note-taking whenever inspiration strikes.

A materials packet ($18 plus applicable taxes and shipping fees) is required for this class and will be available for purchase at www.kalbookarts.org/shop. Please order your kit no later than one week prior to the first class to ensure timely delivery. See the supply list for ordering information and additional materials needed.
