Digital Concert Hall: Miniature Masterworks

Digital Concert Hall: Miniature Masterworks

Presented by Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra at Online/Virtual Space

Our Digital Concert Hall series includes 5 concerts, with a new performance premiering on the final Friday of each month from January through May. Each concert is available on demand for one month after it first airs.

The February Digital Concert Hall, Miniature Masterworks, opens with the overture to the Chevalier de Saint-Georges’ opera, The Anonymous Lover (L\'Amant Anonyme). Hailed by John Adams as “the most accomplished man in Europe,” the Chevalier de Saint-Georges is widely regarded as the first classical composer of African ancestry. Next, we feature Rachel Miller, KSO principal harp, in Debussy’s colorful sacrée et profane. Richard Wagner follows with Siegfried Idyll—an intimate birthday present to his wife after the birth of their son. To close the program, we bring out the timpani and trumpets for Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 3, which contains a brilliant overture, the famous “Air on the G String,” and a few of his most joyous dances.

Featured soloist: Rachel Miller, harp
