Presented by Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo at Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo

ART HOP

Art Hop returns to downtown Kalamazoo on Friday, Oct. 1 from 5-8 pm and will celebrate Hispanic Heritage and the lead up to Dia de Los Muertos. Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15) recognizes the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States.

Twenty stops are planned for this month’s Art Hop, including eight artist tents and musician Carrie McFerrin in the new Haymarket Plaza. Attendees can use the digital Art Hop brochure to plan their evening at: https://www.kalamazooarthop.org/.

HAYMARKET PLAZA

Dedicated to life-long art enthusiasts Gail and Thomas Kasdorf, the new Haymarket Plaza will come to life Friday evening during Art Hop. In addition to artists and live music, a digital art show will be displayed on a 40-by-78-foot section of the Haymarket Building, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The Haymarket Plaza is located behind Treystar’s Haymarket, Monroe, and Main Street East buildings on East Michigan Avenue and Catalyst Development’s newly completed project known as The Warner Building and 180 E. Water Street on Water Street. Treystar announced the Arts Council as a partner to help oversee arts and cultural programming in the space at the dedication ceremony on Sept. 16, 2021.

The Haymarket Plaza features an $80,000 projection mapping system that can display art, announcements, and entertainment on the northeast elevation of the Haymarket Building in the evenings.
