Walk & Mural Dedication to End Gun Violence

October 24, 2020 at 11:30 am - 3:00 pm

This Kalamazoo walk to end gun violence will begin at 11:30 am at Farrell Park (on the corner of Rose and Frank St.).  As we walk, we will stop along the route to light a candle in remembrance of those who we have lost.  The walk will end at LaCrone park where we will hear from community organizations and families who have lost loved ones. The mural will be dedicated and unveiled after receiving word from the families.

The anti-Gun violence mural dedication event is designed to discuss our city’s current issue on gun violence. We will discuss the importance of putting guns down to save lives. With four months to go in 2020, shootings in Kalamazoo are already 60% higher than 2019 total! After averaging four shootings a month through May 2020, Kalamazoo saw the summer bring a huge spike in gun violence. In June 2020, Kalamazoo's department of public safety records show at least 15 people were shot, including one fatal shooting. In July, at least 10 people were shot, including two fatally. In August, at least 14 people were shot, one fatally. In September, at least 2 people were shot, and now in October, thus far, there are at least 4 shootings, including one fatality.  Join us to eliminate and/or reduce the amount of lives lost in the Kalamazoo area!
