The Western Michigan University Symphony Orchestra will present its first concert of the 2019–20 season on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019 at 3 p.m. in Miller Auditorium. The concert is a collaborative event and will feature talented cellist Nathan Le, the silver medal winner of the 2019 Stulberg International String Competition. Le will perform the Symphonia Concertante for Cello and Orchestra by Sergei Prokofiev. Originally composed for Russian virtuoso cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, the piece is one of the most difficult in the cello repertoire. Also on the program will be two works by 20th Century Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich: Festive Overture, Opus 96, and Symphony No. 5 in D Minor, Opus 47.
