Fujin Raijin: Music of Japan

Fujin Raijin: Music of Japan

Presented by Michigan Festival of Sacred Music at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church

This unique concert will feature Japanese music for organ, marimba and Taiko drums, presented by West Michigan-area musicians and visiting performers.

Entitled Fujin Raijin – the Japanese gods of Wind and Thunder, respectively – the program will include works from contemporary Japanese composers for solo organ and solo marimba; a piece written for organ and one Taiko drummer rarely played in the United States; and a newly commissioned piece for the entire ensemble.

The ensemble of accomplished musicians include organist Rhonda Sider Edgington from Holland, MI; percussionist Carolyn Koebel from Kalamazoo; Taiko drumming artist Ken Koshio from Phoenix; marimba player Judy Moonert from Kalamazoo; and members of Michigan Hiryu Daiko Taiko Drummers.
