The classic silent film will be accompanied by a live score, performed by composer George Sarah and area musicians, including singers from Early Music Michigan.
Much like the movie experience of the 1920’s, this viewing of the classic 1928 silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc will be accompanied by live music. Composer George Sarah will perform his original score with area musicians, including singers from Early Music Michigan.
In addition to numerous album releases and live performances, Sarah has written scores for dozens of films and TV shows, including CSI, The Oprah Winfrey Show, History Detectives, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He debuted his The Passion of Joan of Arc score at a screening in Los Angeles in 2010.
The Passion of Joan of Arc is widely regarded as a landmark of cinema, praised and referenced by many film directors and musicians. Film critic Pauline Kael wrote that Renée Jeanne Falconetti’s portrayal of Joan of Arc "may be the finest performance ever recorded on film.”
