"Hansel and Gretel," by Englebert Humperdinck, is based on the classic Grimm fairytale and premiered in Weimar, Germany, in 1893. It tells the three-act story of two children sent into a forest on an errand where they encounter a house made of gingerbread and candy. Soon they find themselves trapped by a witch and trying to avoid being cooked and eaten.
