Auditions: The Odd Couple

Auditions: The Odd Couple

Presented by SKITS AND GIGGLES, LLC at The Point

The Skits and Giggles Traveling Troupe is looking to cast 6 women and 2 men for a femme version of "The Odd Couple!" Director Katherine Mumma. Auditions will consist of cold reads from the script. Rehearsals start September 3 with a read thru August 26.

Character descriptions:

Florence:  American, obsessive, OCD, tidy, neat, serious, well-groomed, wife(separated), new roommate of her friend, Olive.  Although Florence is sexually introverted, she is romantically pursued by the Costazuela brothers and ultimately finds her self-confidence.

Olive:  American, Witty ,successful, TV Producer, intelligent, bright, attractive, lazy slob, She is happily divorced, although she continues to send her ex-husband money to help him get his life sorted out (which he still hasn’t managed to do).  Invited Florence to be her roommate when her hubby kicked her out.

Mickey:  American, Policewoman, sensible, down to earth, kind, strong. Mickey encourages Olive to be strong and not give in and give more money to her ex-husband.

Sylvia:  American, witty, funny, She is desperately trying to stop smoking, and so sucks on lollipops or chews gum. She is prone to irritability with her friends, but always has a good sense of humor, especially when talking about her husband and her long-standing marriage. By the end of the play, it is obvious that she is pregnant.

Renee:  American, Sylvie's best friend. She can be very plain-spoken, and she does not hesitate to point out Olive's failings as a hostess, much to Olive’s annoyance. When Florence moves in with Olive, Renee then turns to pointing out Florence's annoying domestic habits. Renee is single, but has been dating a doctor.

Vera:  American, Vera is very sweet, and kind, but rather slow on the uptake. Although she is quite smart, she is often a step or two behind her friends. Vera is also very funny, but she doesn't realize her comedic potential. Vera is married and always on a deadline to get home.

Manola Costazuela: Manolo is a handsome, very well-groomed Latin-lover kind of guy. He is Spanish and lives with his younger brother, Jesus. He is every woman's dream and on the brothers’ double-date with Olive and Florence, he showers both the women with attention. Manolo is particularly comedic with excellent comic timing, as he swings between confident flirtation and emotional sensitivity. Manolo particularly appreciates Florence's sensitivity.

Jesus Costazuela:  Jesus is the younger brother of Manolo, and the pair share an apartment together. He is very handsome and well-groomed, but a little more boyish than his older brother. Jesus has excellent posture and is particularly romantic. Like his brother, Jesus flirts with both Florence and Olive on their double-date. However, he is very emotional and it is Florence’s sensitivity that intrigues him.
