The Youth Summer Intensive is a 5-day workshop that takes place in the beautiful Wellspring Theater where the Wellspring company rehearses daily and performs several times per year. Participants will have daily technique, repertory, improv, and composition classes. The experience is capped off with an opportunity to share the work learned through the week at an open performance. This 5-day experience runs from 9 am- 12 pm in the Wellspring Theater located in the Epic Center in Downtown Kalamazoo.

Led by Wellspring Company Member, Jasmine Statzer, the day will begin with technique class combining modern elements from well known traditions, to give students a firm base of technique and to be ready and warmed up for the day of dancing. The rest of the day will include learning repertory, improvisation, and basic work in dance composition.

During this program students will:

• Learn an excerpt of a company piece, to be performed at the showcase.
• Take daily technique class that will use a range of modern techniques, focusing on body alignment, spacial awareness, gaining flexibility and coordination.
• Choreograph their own dance, to be performed at the showcase.
• Experience daily improv class is held in the theater as well as in alternate locations in the building for site-specific work.

The week will end with an informal performance at 11:30 am that friends and family are invited to attend.
