Western Michigan University Symphony Orchestra to perform world premiere of WMU Student Composer
In Kalamazoo's historic Chenery Auditorium, the WMU Symphony Orchestra and Guest Conductor Andrew Koehler present the music of two towering Eastern European composers, as well as the world premiere of a local emerging talent. School of Music Student Composition Competition winner Colwyn Hoard's Detachment is an aural depiction of a psychic breakdown. It is bookended by Polish-Soviet composer Mieczyslaw Weinberg's dashing ode to the folk music of his parent's place of birth, the Rhapsody on Moldovan Themes, and by the brooding symphonic masterpiece of Antonin Dvorak, his Symphony No. 7.
