NYC Drummer and Bandleader Carl Allen performing with WMU students
The WMU Jazz Area Presents New York City drummer and bandleader Carl Allen on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall at Western Michigan University.
With over 200 recordings to his credit, the gifted Milwaukee-born, New York-based drummer worked with Freddie Hubbard as his musical director for eight years, and recorded several recordings with the trumpeter. Allen has also played with Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker, Benny Golson, J.J. Johnson, Rickie Lee Jones, Sammy Davis Jr., Branford Marsalis, Kenny Garrett, Lena Horne, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Bobby Hutcherson, Mike Stern, Terence Blanchard, Phil Woods, Benny Green, Cyrus Chestnut, Joe Henderson, Billy Childs, and many others.
This performance will include select WMU Jazz students performing compositions by Freddie Hubbard, Cedar Walton, Sting, James Williams, and Mulgrew Miller, as well as Allen’s tribute to Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, and Roy Hargrove. This event is not to be missed and advance tickets are recommended.
