2019 Westminster Art Festival - Migration: Traveling Mercies

2019 Westminster Art Festival - Migration: Traveling Mercies

Presented by Westminster Presbyterian Church at Westminster Presbyterian Church

The seventh annual Westminster Art Festival is on the theme: "Migration: Traveling Mercies." People, birds and other animals have always moved about the earth for a variety of reasons. Birds fly between nesting grounds and their wintering locations. Animals move about to be near food and water sources. People move to be closer to family, work, or places of safety. Changing climate across the globe has led to changes in migration patterns. Artists and poets will address a wide variety of issues related to these changing patterns: the refugee crisis brought on by violence or famine, loss of habitat, species extinction, etc. The threats posed by climate change, political unrest, and economic exploitation suggest that we could all use a few "traveling mercies.

The visual arts will be juried by WMU professor Karen Bondarchuk and the poetry by KVCC instructor, local poet and activivist Denise Miller. Prizes range between $800 and $50.
