Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, is the most important festival in China and many Asian countries. In 2019, Chinese New Year’s Day falls on Feb 5, which marks the beginning of the Year of the Pig.
Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, is the most important festival in China and many Asian countries. The 2019 Chinese New Year Gala hosted by the Confucius Institute at WMU will be held from3 to 6 p.m. Saturday,Jan 26 in the Dalton Center Recital Hall on WMU main campus.
The gala celebrates Chinese New Year featuring traditional Chinese stage performances, games, gift raffle and snacks. Confucius Institute at WMU teachers and their students will present songs, dances, poetry recitals, folk music, Chinese yoyo performance and more. Students from WMU, Loy Norrix High School, Kalamazoo Central High School, the Gagie school, Kazoo School, and the Kalamazoo Chinese Academy are participating.
The date for the Chinese New Year fluctuates based on the lunar calendar and each year is marked by one of 12 animals. In 2019, Chinese New Year’s Day falls on Feb 5, which marks the beginning of the Year of the Pig.
