Performing Jennifer Higdon’s Machine, Gustav Holst’s First Suite in E-Flat, Ron Nelson’s Aspen Jubilee, Andrew Perkin’s Asylum, and Paul Dooley’s Masks and Machines.
The Western Michigan University Wind Symphony will present its first concert of the academic year! Admission is free and open to the public. The variety-packed program will feature former WMU Director of Bands Robert Spradling, who will conduct Gustav Holst’s band classic, First Suite in E-Flat Major. The Wind Symphony will also perform Jennifer Higdon’s Machine, Ron Nelson’s Aspen Jubilee, Andrew David Perkins’ Asylum, and Paul Dooley’s Masks and Machines.
The University Wind Symphony (formerly “Symphonic Band”) at Western Michigan University is made up of outstanding undergraduate and graduate musicians who embrace the challenge of performing the finest in wind band literature and transcriptions in a variety of concert settings. The ensemble presents four to five performances each year in WMU’s 3,500-seat Miller Auditorium and includes concert appearances throughout Michigan and the Midwest as a part of its annual spring tour. The ensemble has gained national and international notoriety through performances at national conventions of the College Band Directors National Association and MENC as well as at the Michigan Music Conference. They have also toured Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Brazil, and China.
