To open this year’s season, Ballet Arts Ensemble (BAE) and Artistic Director Cathleen Huling have chosen to retell balletically Hans Christian Andersen’s enchanting story, “The Princess and the Pea.”
The premiere performances of this work will take place at classic Chenery Auditorium on Saturday and Sunday, November 17 and 18, at 2:00 pm.
Ms. Huling has used her creative talents to choreograph a delightful version of this popular fairytale, set to the music of Giuseppe Verdi. Although the storyline follows the traditional tale of a prince in search of his princess, Ms. Huling has included many characters from other Andersen stories and provided a unique twist to the narrative, including a somewhat unusual ending.
Each performance will be followed by a Princess Tea. One Tea ticket may be bought for each performance ticket purchased. Those who attend the Tea will have the opportunity to meet the dancers and get their autographs. Seating is limited to 100 people for each Tea on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Princess and the Pea performance and Tea tickets go on sale at the Miller Auditorium Box Office (269.387.2300 or 800.228.8858) on Monday, October 1. They may also be purchased online at www.balletartsensemble.org. Performance tickets are priced from $13 to $18. There is also a special $12 ticket prices for groups of 20 or more. Tickets for the Tea are $6 each, and seating is limited to 100 people per Tea.
