Downtown Kalamazoo will be buzzing February 22 -24 with theatre lovers from around the state, as the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre hosts the bi-annual Michigan State AACTFest. Community theatre groups from around the state will assemble and perform one-hour cuttings of plays, one acts, or original works, which will be adjudicated by three theatre professionals. The top two productions will advance to the Region 3 AACTFest to be held in Hartford, Wisconsin, in April.
Local theatre enthusiasts are encouraged to attend as many of the productions as possible. Tickets for each session are just $10 and can be purchased by calling the Civic Box Office at 343 – 1313 or by visiting the Civic online at www.kazoocivic.com, beginning February 8. Tickets will also be available at the door on the day of the performance. Doors will open one half hour prior to each session.
In addition to the productions, a series of workshops will be offered on Saturday morning, February 23. Beginning at 8:00am the hour long workshops will focus on improvisation, producing a musical revue, horror makeup and singing at auditions.
The entire festival will conclude Sunday, February 24th with a brunch and the presentation of awards.
