Presented by Music and Arts Committee, First United Methodist Church at First United Methodist Church

You are invited to a free, 50-minute concert at First United Methodist Church in downtown Kalamazoo (212 S.Park Street) on December 14 at noon. As a part of our concert series, members of the Portage Northern High School's Songleader's Chorale directed by Robert Jordan, Director of Choirs, will perform the jazz "Mass in Blue" by Will Todd. The Mass will feature a soprano soloist from Germany for the concert, Katelin Spencer. Ms. Spencer, has been hailed by Chicago audiences as a “confident beauty with a voice to match”. Her repertoire ranges from concert and oratorio to musical theater and opera. She received her B.M. in voice performance from University of Michigan and her M.M. in Opera Performance and Literature from Northwestern University where she performed such roles as Pamina in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Rose in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene, and Florestine from The Ghosts of Versailles by John Corigliano. She has been a soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Bach’s Magnificat, Bach’s B-minor Mass, and Schubert’s Mass in G. Katelin now resides in Berlin, Germany where she has most recently performed with the Berlin Opera Collaborative as Zerlina in Don Giovanni and Marzelline in Beethoven’s Fidelio. She would like to dedicate this performance in memory of her mentor and friend Clarence Small for inspiring in her a love of American spirituals and jazz.
