China Festival at WMU

Presented by Kalamazoo Chinese Academy at WMU Student Recreation Center

The China Festival at WMU was established to broaden understanding about Chinese culture within West Michigan communities. The 4th China Festival at WMU will be held on October 7, 2017 in WMU’s Student Recreation Center.  This town-and-gown collaborative festival commemorates the traditional Chinese Moon Festival. It was initially organized by WMU's Haenicke Institute for Global Education in collaboration with the Chinese Association of Greater Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo Chinese Academy, and Whirlpool Asian Community. Campus co-sponsors include the Confucius Institute at WMU, Timothy Light Center for Chinese Studies, College of Arts and Sciences, Haworth College of Business, Department of World Languages and Literatures, and Association of Chinese Students and Scholars. Featured activities Hands-on cultural activities.
Informational display booths.
Art exhibition.
Badminton tournament final and clinic.
Chinese martial arts: dragon dance, Xuanwu Quan, Tai Chi fan, Tai Chi and Group Kungfu
Chinese yoyo: performance and mini class
Chinese dance: Square dance, Tibet dance, dance of paper cutting, and Yangko class
Taiko for fun and mini class.
Free parking. Free Admission. Nominal fee for traditional foods from local Chinese restaurants.
