John Pigeon has been active in his community of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians for over 30 years, continuing his family tradition of black ash basketry with son Johnny. The black ash has been with us for generations, so we live in balance with all things that we do. The pair will talk about their work and bring some black ash logs to show how the wood is processed to create the splints for the baskets.
