In celebration of her new release, The Things That We Are Made Of, Mary Chapin Carpenter will be coming to Kalamazoo State Theatre for a live performance on October 20! Born and raised in Princeton, New Jersey, the American, singer, songwriter, and musician was part of a small movement of folk-influenced country singer/songwriters of the late ’80s where she channeled her anti-Nashville approach into chart success and industry awards by the early ’90s.

Over the course of her acclaimed career, Carpenter has recorded 14 albums and sold over 14 million records. With hits like ”Passionate Kisses” and “He Thinks He’ll Keep Her,” she has won five Grammy Awards (with 15 nominations), two CMA awards, two Academy of Country Music awards for her vocals and is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Carpenter made her acclaimed debut on the orchestral album, Songs From The Movie, and has since performed alongside the New York Philharmonic, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the London Concert Orchestra, the L.A. Philharmonic and the National Symphony Orchestra and many others.
