Join the Krasl Art Center for the spring, 2017 George Krasl Memorial Concert. The guest performer for the evening will be Mr. Ivan Akansiima, a junior at Hope College in Holland, Michigan and a graduate of Lake Michigan College. Akamsiima is a self-taught musician and multi-instrumentalist (piano, drums, guitar, and bass) originally from Uganda. He is influenced by African indigenous drum rhythms from his ancestral roots, pop music and jazz. His current projects focus on jazz. He is a member of the Hope College Jazz Arts Collective and has performed original compositions with the ensemble. In this concert, Akamsiima will explore African American music and the performance will encompass a variety of styles, including African drumming, classical, jazz, gospel and R&B.
