Hailed by The New York Times at their Carnegie Hall debut as “invariably energetic and finely burnished…playing with earthy vigor,” the Catalyst Quartet is comprised of top Laureates and alumni of the internationally acclaimed Sphinx Competition. Known for “rhythmic energy, polyphonic clarity and tight ensemble-playing,” the group has toured throughout the United States and abroad including sold-out performances at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, Chicago’s Harris Theater, the new World Center in Miami and Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall. In 2014 they completed their fourth national tour as principal players and featured ensemble with the Sphinx Virtuosi. They appeared recently at the 18th annual Sphinx Competition in Detroit. They serve as principal faculty at the Sphinx Performance Academy at Oberlin College and Roosevelt University. Founded by the Sphinx Organization, the Catalyst Quartet combines a serious commitment to diversity and education with a passion for contemporary works.
