Watercolor, gouache, and calligraphy have long been partners in colorful, magnificent works. Add a bit of colored pencil to the ingredient list and you have a recipe allowing luscious layering to occur. For this two-day workshop, Calligrapher/Artist Kristen Doty will lead participants in combining watercolor, gouache, colored pencil and lettering effectively, and avoiding mud! Basic techniques will be demonstrated and practiced, including some color theory, then letterforms will be combined and layered to create interesting effects. Students should have some calligraphic experience with a broad-edged pen, but no previous watercolor, gouache or colored pencil experience is required.
