The Chrysalis Institute nourishes the creative trajectory of emerging BI&POC artists. Creatives of all major disciplines (Music, Writing, Visual, and Performing Arts) are invited to learn, share, retreat in contemplative spaces and showcase their work. We believe that it is essential that artists are able to access the power of their voices as they become key contributors to a generative world.

~ We are excited to launch the third cohort of The Milkweed Learning Hub in a HYBRID iteration including the inaugural Chrysalis Micro-Residency in Spring 2023 ~

The Milkweed Learning Hub is a virtual space where we will explore the intersection of identity and the creative process. It is a multi-faceted platform aimed at supporting our participating artists via a socio-emotional learning/engagement framework. Lively online discussions, relevant workshops, book clubs, and other resources will be available to participants at no cost.

The Chrysalis Micro-residency is made possible due to a visionary collaboration between The Chrysalis and Fetzer Institutes. The Micro-Residency consists of a 4-day weekend at GilChrist Retreat Center, housed on 67 acres of woods and rolling meadows in Southwest Michigan. Aimed at providing selected emerging BI&POC artists a physical space for restoration and contemplation, we also hope that this space will nurture fruitful dialogue amongst the cohort by fostering a sense of community and collective care. This fully sponsored long weekend experience includes air travel, ground transportation, lodging, and food. We hope that this supportive initiative will help eliminate systemic burdens preventing BI&POC artists from participating in similar offerings.
