Colleen Woolpert explores the meaning of vision—from visual perception itself to abstract concepts like imagination, wonder, and doubt—through photography, video, and interactive objects and installations. Motivated by her foundational experiences as an identical twin and her twin’s lack of depth perception, her projects have included stereograph exhibitions, collaborations with blind artists, and becoming an inventor, among other pursuits. www.colleenwoolpert.com

Originally from West Michigan, Colleen has lived in seven states. She holds a BA from Western Michigan University and an MFA from Syracuse University. In 2016 she returned to Kalamazoo for an artist residency at Makeshift and stayed on.  Her work has been exhibited at the Griffin Museum of Photography (Winchester, MA), Schneider Gallery (Chicago, IL), and Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (Grand Rapids, MI), among other venues. Colleen is a photography educator, most recently in Kalamazoo at WMU, KVCC, and the KIA. She is also the maker/inventor of the TwinScope Viewer, an exhibition stereoscope that has been acquired by collectors, artists, and institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of Modern Art, and the Smithsonian Archives of American Art.
