Currently a Professor of Art at Western Michigan University. Past appointments include serving as Senior Associate Dean at WMU; Chair of the Department of Art & Art History at Michigan State University; Program Head in Studio Art at The Pennsylvania State University; and faculty appointments at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, Skidmore College, the Massachusetts College of Art, the University of Michigan, and North Carolina State University.

Furniture and metal art works have been shown in over 100 exhibitions in the past 30 years at venues including the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Detroit Institute of Arts, the Auckland Memorial Museum, University of Iowa Museum of Art,University of Oregon Museum of Art, State Museum of Pennsylvania, Lever House, North Carolina Museum of History, and the National Ornamental Metals Museum. He earned a MFA from University of Michigan, a MA from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a BA from Michigan State University.

Activities within academic and non-profit organizations include serving as President of the College Art Association, Past-President of the National Council of Arts Administrators, and Past-Presdient of the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo. Also an accreditation site visitor and consultant for the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and a frequent invited speaker on the topic of leadership and management in higher education.
