Inspiration: Immersive Van Gogh in Chicago made a huge impression on me and I began thinking of ways I could do something similar with my art. I didn’t have 32+ projectors or the technology to pull off something totally immersive, but I have a large body of work and wanted to do a similar event on a smaller scale with a live dancer. I wanted to employ composers and a dancer because jobs are hard to find in the creative community and fair pay is sometimes elusive. My dreams were realized when I received a KADI grant from The Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo. The initial version was filmed with no audience due to Covid, but I’m ecstatic that The Acorn Theater is presenting this event to a live audience for the first time. I just want everyone to feel the positive energy from this performance and I also hope to inspire younger artists, dancers, and musicians to think big and follow their dreams.
