Community Voices Ensemble

Spring session meets on April 7 – June 2; Thursdays from 4-5 pm at Crescendo Academy of Music.
CrescendoCommunity Voices (CCV) offers musical experiences for teens and adults with intellectual disabilities. It was created to provide an environment for individuals with special needs, as well as the people who care for them, an opportunity to gather together and make music in a supportive environment. The class is led by a board-certified music therapist with assistance from Crescendo Academy of Music teaching artists. It now draws members from ROI, the Kalamazoo Regional Education Service Agency’s Young Adult Program (KRESA-YAP), McKercher Industries (MRC), and individuals from the greater Kalamazoo area.

CCV provides its participants with a unique opportunity to engage in a positive learning and leisure activity. Weekly classes provide participants with a social outlet in a new setting. By working collaboratively to learn and perform, the participants not only broaden their musical experiences but are able to further develop vocational and cognitive skills. CCV participants experience singing, chanting, movement, drumming, and playing rhythmic and tonal instruments. Our program philosophy is to make music in a supportive atmosphere where the reward is the pleasure of making music with others. Additionally, CCV unites its participants with the community through live performances. Participation is open to everyone in the community.
The only prerequisite is an open mind and an open heart!
