We hope you can join for the launch events for the Center for Contemporary Music, Improvisation, and eXperimentation (CMIX) at Western Michigan University in the Dalton Center Multimedia Room on Friday, September 29th at 7:30 pm, and on Saturday, September 30th at 2 pm and 7:30 PM. Additionally, there will be installations in the Dalton Center Lobby from 3:30-7:15 on Saturday and a reception at 6:30 pm. CMIX intends to serve as a hub for the creation and presentation of contemporary music and multimedia in a wide variety of styles. Our opening will include performances by the Corn Fed Girls and Carter Rice; concerts by our internationally acclaimed Irving S. Gilmore faculty in jazz, music performance, choral studies, and composition; works by Frostic School of Art faculty teaching in the innovative new Kinetic Imaging program; and both performances and compositions by current and former WMU students.

The Western Jazz Collective will present original modern jazz. Nodes, which features WMU jazz faculty and electronic musician Christopher Biggs, will present a mini-set of jazz with live electronics processing.
The Multimedia and Contemporary Music Concert will showcase WMUs Anima Choir under the direction of Dr. Kimberly Dunn Adams, the Western Brass Quintet, the Western Wind Quintet, Andrew Rathbun, Henning Schroeder, and Yu-Lien The performing works by WMU faculty, alumni, and students.
