Art Hop August 2021 Stop 19: Ron Holder

Ron Holder is a lifelong resident of Battle Creek. He has been making images in some form since childhood, via drawing, painting and photography. He’s taken art classes and workshops through Kellogg Community College and the Art Center of Battle Creek but is otherwise largely self-taught. He worked in the art supply and picture framing industry for a number of years and owned a retail art supply store in the 1990s through early 2000s. He has been involved in area arts organizations for many years, with roles on the board of directors of the Art Center of Battle Creek and past president of the Battle Creek Society of Artists.

His recent work includes paintings of his local landscape as well as other Michigan-themed works; western landscapes and abstract paintings inspired by natural forms. He prefers to paint in acrylic due to its durability, fast drying time and ease of working without solvents.
