An Evening with Li Hongwei

Artist Li Hongwei, who works and lives in New York and Beijing, will join Chief Curator Rehema Barber for a conversation that explores the dual nature of his work.

His sculptures represent balance between tradition and innovation, fragility, strength, realism and abstraction. His use of ceramics is a nod to traditional Chinese art forms, while his use of stainless steel brings a sense of modernity into his work. Hongwei is also interested in Chinese philosophy and the principles of yin and yang, the two complementary forces that bring harmony to the universe.
