Are you a Kalamazoo Valley alumnus with a love for creating art? There is still time to enter the Seventh Annual Alumni + Art Show; submissions will be accepted until February 23. There is no artist entry fee.
The show opens on Art Hop Friday, April 6 at 5:30 p.m. and will be available for viewing the entire month of April at the college’s Center for New Media located on the Arcadia Commons Campus in downtown Kalamazoo. This juried art show enables Kalamazoo Valley alumni to display their works in a professional gallery setting. “We are very proud of our alumni,” said Art and New Media Program Director Tom Hamann. “Our judges have the wonderful opportunity of choosing winners from dozens of outstanding entries.”
Works submitted will be considered for six awards, which will be presented to artists on the night of the show. Show judges are area professionals who come from a variety of disciplines and whose expertise enables them to deliver expert, but impartial, determinations. “Previous judges have been impressed by the variety and quality of work,” Hamann said.
An alumni artist can enter the show if they: 1) have successfully completed at least one class at Kalamazoo Valley, and 2) are not currently enrolled in any class at the time of the show (winter 2018), and 3) are not an employee at Kalamazoo Valley.
“You need not have been an art student. Previous show entrants have come from a variety of backgrounds including law enforcement, accounting, and medical coding,” said Alumni + Coordinator Denise Thomas. “The depth and breadth of talent exhibited by our alumni is truly amazing,” she said.
