Paperworks 2021 (Online Art Competition)

The bj spoke gallery announces a call for artists for Paperworks 2021, an international fine art competition for artists using paper as their primary medium, as a substrate, or the subject of a video. Accepted Media: works made on, of, or about paper; cut paper; folded paper; woven paper; glued paper; drawings; paintings; pastels; printmaking; photographs; paper sculpture; 3D; bound books; collage; mixed media; video; original digital art; and installation.

Deadline: 16 May 2021

Entry fee: $35.00 for up to 6 images and/or 2 videos, any or all of which could be selected for the online exhibition

This exhibition is an opportunity for artists working in, on, or about paper. Every time bj spoke gallery runs this show, the members at their co-op gallery are amazed and impressed by the unusual and creative uses to which paper can be put. Drawing, painting, and photography, yes, but also paper sculpture, installations, and even videos about paper are possible entries. There is no size limitation on the works, nor is there any shipping fee.

Juror: Sewon Kang is Archivist at The Easton Foundation, Louise Bourgeois’ home/studio, New York, NY. She previously worked in the Drawings and Prints department at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY.

Paperworks 2021 Artist Benefits

There are small cash awards for first, second, and third place. Because Paperworks 2021 is online, the potential exists for viewers to see the art from wherever in the world the internet is available.  Winners will have up to six pieces included in a one-month, online exhibition on bj spoke galley’s website in August 2021. Work will be promoted on the gallery’s social media accounts. There will be a Zoom reception for the event which will accomodate large numbers of registrants.

About bj spoke gallery

bj spoke gallery is a cooperative gallery which has a steadfast membership of artists working in a broad range of media and styles. They are a not-for-profit with a mission of community outreach and education. Ordinarily (in pre-covid times), shows are undertaken with the dual purposes of staying alive financially and bringing the excellent work of national artists into the community. The times being uncertain, the gallery has turned to the online show and zoom reception as ways to continue traditions. While they are saddened not to see the work in person, they realize that the online venue permits work of larger sizes than would fit in their physical gallery. The artists can submit without considering shipping fees or customs requirements.
