I am a Chicago-born teaching contemporary artist with over 25 years of experience creating curricula and teaching children K-12 and adults of all ages. In 2015 I completed a BFA at Indiana University Northwest with a concentration in Painting. I am currently the Exhibition and Project Coordinator at Indiana Northwest’s School of the Arts, in the process of relocating to Kalamazoo. I am excited about connecting with creatives in this region!
Neurologist Oliver Sacks describes the connection between our past and present reality as “moorings in time.” The theme of “moorings” continues to influence my work, the sense of fitting securely into a specific culture and history —a time, place, and people. Using oil and wax on birch panels, photography, drawings, and book forms, my work seeks to provide a poetic observation of the internal and external influences that write and edit our autobiographies. It ultimately asks us to consider the role of perceiving and recalling these stories and myths, family histories, and identities – or the absence thereof – in constructing and preserving personal and cultural narratives. It has been said that “communities are place-holders for stories, narratives, and myths,” inferring geographic and cultural influence. My current research reflects my growing interest in story collecting and site-specific installations incorporating various media and technology.
