Epic Center

epic-nightDue to COVID-19 the ACGK is not currently accepting any reservations for use of the Judy K. Jolliffe Theatre. For inquiries about renting other spaces within the Epic Center please contact the building manager (Lockhart Management and Consulting) at 269.226.8784 . Thank you for understanding. The The Epic Center is a four-story building located in beautiful Downtown Kalamazoo. Renovated from a closed Jacobson’s department store in 1999, it opened in 2000 and is home for arts and culture in the greater Kalamazoo area and Southwest Michigan. The Epic Center features a community box office, a restaurant, a retail space, two modern performance theatre spaces, and the offices of ten cultural and artistic organizations. The Epic Center also is host to many events and meetings by local and visiting groups and businesses who enjoy the aesthetics, convenience, and artistic experience.

Inside, the Epic Center is headquarters for the following Partners: Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo, Black Arts & Cultural Center, Crescendo Academy of Music, and Education for the Arts, Central City Tap House, Judy K. Jolliffe Theatre, Fontana Chamber Arts, Irving S. Gilmore International Keyboard Festival, Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Nature Connection, Public Media Network, Stulberg String Competition and Wellspring/ Cori Terry & Dancers.

Epic Center was among the first of its kind in the United States. At the time of the renovation and collaboration among the different arts organizations, the few other shared arts spaces were typically live/work spaces for individual artists, combining residences with studios. Arts facilities have again and again proved to be economic generators and catalysts for the cities they inspire. Epic Center fills that role in Kalamazoo and throughout Southwest Michigan.

Support and funding for the renovation of the building came from many generous local individual supporters and foundations in the Kalamazoo community. Artwork displayed around the building was permanently donated by members of the arts community here in the Greater Kalamazoo area.
