WHAT DO WE MEAN BY A STAGED READING?
1) The focus is on the storytelling and helping the playwright understand how the play works in front of an audience.
2) Playwrights often revise the play throughout the development process, therefore actors do not memorize their lines.
3) Plays are presented with minimal technical elements in order to tell the story as simply and clearly as possible.

*SPECIAL GUEST PLAYWRIGHT BIOGRAPHY:
Emilio Rodriguez is a playwright, actor, director, producer, and teaching artist currently living in Detroit. His plays have been read and performed in various cities, including at the inaugural Activate: Midwest festival at WMU. He was also selected as the first Michigan-based artist for a residency with the MITTEN Lab in Traverse City. In his work, he seeks to create three dimensional roles for Latinos and actors of color in order to give these actors a chance to showcase their true talents and to make the theatre community better aware of the fact that all of our experiences have commonalities regardless of race.
