Up Close: Gold and Graves: Treasures of Pre-Columbian Art
Presented by Kalamazoo Institute of Arts at Kalamazoo Institute of Arts
September 13, 2012
The KIA has a small but outstanding collection of Pre-Columbian gold objects, several of which are featured in Andre Emmerich's classic book, Sweat of the Sun and Tears of the Moon. This two-part class provides a chance to study the fascinating designs, symbolic imagery, and ingenious metalworking techniques of these pieces. In addition, several of the significant Pre-Columbian ceramic works in the collection will be highlighted as well.
