  • Spending by Kalamazoo County’s nonprofit arts and culture industry and their audiences amounted to some $68.72 million in 2005.
  • Some 790,249 persons attended events hosted or produced by the arts and cultural organizations in Kalamazoo County during 2006.
  • Spending by the arts industry and by arts patrons generated some $47.7 million in resident household income and 2,419 full-time equivalent jobs in 2005.

We See the Impact Nationwide

Americans for the Arts recently released the findings from “Arts & Economic Prosperity III: The Economic Impact of Nonprofit Arts Organizations and Their Audiences.” This research project reveals that America’s nonprofit arts industry generated $166.2 billion in economic activity during 2005, including $63.1 billion in spending by nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and $103.1 billion in event-related spending by arts audiences.

You can visit the Americans for the Arts Web site to view the entire nationwide study and learn more about this exciting project.

From major metropolitan areas to small rural towns, the nonprofit arts industry attracts audiences, spurs business development, supports jobs, and generates government revenue. Locally as well as nationally, the arts mean business.
